telisma steps up a notch on its investment in India and releases its leading speech recognition software, teliSpeech, in 10 Indian languages
True to its international ambitions, telisma continues its investment in India. With a population of over 1 billion inhabitants, representing 16% of the world’s population, India is undoubtedly one of the most challenging countries for Speech Recognition!
Telisma currently covers 85% of all official Indian languages having released 10 Indian Languages to date. But we are striving to do better. Telisma will cover in excess of 90% of all official languages by the end of 2007.
This is a major step forward. Over the past 8 months, telisma’s language team have developed these new Indian languages from scratch with the help of native speakers. A comprehensive phonetic screening exercise has been conducted by the team in order to list those sounds common to most Indian languages and those very unique to each regional language. By doing so, telisma has been able to drastically reduce development time through exploiting commonalities between languages as well as leveraging the capabilities of teliSpeech Language Development Kit (LDK). The languages include their own phonetics and related acoustic libraries and even support the appropriate Indian script. They are now all ready to download at www.telisma.com.
Telisma intends to open up the Indian voice market. We want to help improve social networking, allow the Indian population to access services and information by using their voice. India is a major part of telisma’s international development strategy and as such we will continue with our solid investment. Telisma continues to innovate, so keep an eye out for future news on new languages and on our future expansion plans in India.
