| The system distinguishes between the out-going signal (what the system says) and the incoming signal (the combination of what is said by the speaker, the background noise and the echo of what the system says).
This feature is required for barge-in in telephone applications.

| Keyword preceded and/or followed only by a hesitation, clearing the throat, a politeness expression etc. (e.g. : the system recognizes Weather when the user says "weather please" or "Uh, weather"). Even if this relates to a specific instance of keyword detection, the term embedded word is used more specially in the context of isolated word systems as an improvement to this type of system.
